Learning to Love Myself

Have you ever loved someone so deeply that you forgot how to love yourself?

This raw and emotionally revealing memoir takes you inside the heart of a woman who slowly lost her sense of self in the name of love. As she unpacks her relationship with her ex—two empaths tangled in mismatched attachment styles—she also unearths childhood traumas, emotional dependencies, and a lifelong search for validation.

What happens when the love you give others isn’t the love you give yourself? Can you truly receive love if you believe you’re unworthy of it?

Told through narrative reflections and soul-stirring song lyrics, Remind Me invites you on a healing journey of rediscovery. If you’ve ever been everything for someone else—at the cost of yourself—this book was written for you.

Remind Me: Learning to Love Myself

Remind Me’ draws you in with a vulnerable, honest sharing of a very turbulent time in the author’s life. Inner turmoil stemming from childhood trauma bubbles to the surface once more during a romantic relationship. Interspersed throughout are amazingly deep and reflective song lyrics that provide a window into the author’s thoughts and roller coaster of emotions as the relationship evolves and morphs into something unexpected. The honest recounting and processing of a harmful relationship make this a must-read for those in similar circumstances and can serve as a cautionary tale for anyone ready to step into a relationship as well. Throughout the book, you see the wearing down and crumbling of a woman due to her toxic relationship and then the awakening of a confident, brave woman who comes out the other side stronger, steadier, and more ready to love herself than ever before.

Remind Me’ is a small book that left a big impact on me. It touched on emotions and experiences that felt incredibly personal—especially the struggles of childhood, and the oftentangled relationships with family and friends. The author writes with raw honesty, making it easy to see yourself in the pages. What struck me most was the way it captured the dynamic of a relationship with a narcissist—the charm, the confusion, and the emotional toll it takes. It was like reading parts of my own story, laid out in a way that made me feel seen and understood. In between chapters, she includes original song lyrics that give the book a poetic rhythm. I couldn’t even choose a favorite—they all touched me in different ways and added a deeper connection to her story. Despite it being brief and to-the-point, ‘Remind Me’ offered deep reflection and unexpected healing. I’m so glad Deb shared with me!

FAQ

1. What inspired you to write this book?

After ending a 7-year relationship with the person I thought was the love of my life, I
was inspired to write this story. While isolating myself after the breakup, I was called
to journal about my childhood trauma that led me to feel the need to put other
people’s needs before my own. I now understand that I began to equate my self-love
and self-worth with giving to others. My inability to meet my own emotional
needs caused me to seek external validation rather than relying on myself to feel
whole from within.

2. What will your readers gain from your book?

By sharing my story, I hope to encourage others who have lost their authentic self
(through people-pleasing patterns) to reflect on past traumas that need to be healed.
Through journaling and self-reflection, I was able to pinpoint the limiting beliefs that
prevented me from loving all parts of myself. It is my desire to help heal others who
are struggling with feelings of inadequacy.

3. What was your unique quotient for this project?

The uniqueness of my story is highlighted through the lyrics I wrote while in a band
with the individual I fell “head over heels” in love with. As I began this healing
journey, I reflected on the sequence of events that occurred. I discovered that the
song lyrics I was inspired to write throughout this relationship clearly depict the raw
emotions I was experiencing each step of the way.

4. How did becoming an author help in your brand/business?

Journaling has always been an outlet for expressing my innermost thoughts and
feelings throughout my life. Like many young girls, I kept a diary for years. However,
it never crossed my mind to become a published author until I was called to write my
story in order to heal from one of the most devastating losses I have encountered.

Our connection was spiritually grounded and the loss of this relationship felt as if a
part of me died when it ended. However, deep healing and inner peace transpired
from revisiting my past and sharing my story. The vulnerability and depth with which I
had to explore and identify my own insecurities and perceived inadequacies have
caused me to look at love and life from a different perspective.

5. What are your future plans as an author?

The journey I encountered while healing from heartbreak and simultaneously
becoming a published author has been a long and winding road. I had to overcome
many barriers and obstacles along the way. During this period of uncertainty, I
purged (both mentally and physically) a home I had lived in for nearly 10 years,
packed my belongings, and moved to a new city, applied for and obtained a new job-
all while grieving the loss of someone I thought would never betray me. As I let go of
my past and started a brand new chapter, I had to rely on my faith in God to help me
through. When asked what my future plans as an author entail, all I know for sure is
that I will continue to place my faith and trust in God to guide me toward my highest
purpose from this day forward.

6. What will you learn from this book?

By fully embracing this transformative process, facing my own reflection in the mirror,
and analyzing my past wounds, I became aware of the following lessons and hope
my readers can benefit from the wisdom I gained:

1. Love for oneself and a higher power must first be present in order to
unconditionally love others.
2. Sometimes those who hurt us in love are the same individuals who truly heal us.
3. Surrendering to a higher power and letting go of controlling outcomes is the path
to true peace and happiness in the end.
