About the Author


Matt McGinnis, a Pennsylvania native and Robert Morris University graduate, began his writing journey with FanSided in 2019. In December 2022, he committed to writing his first fiction book, The Rodney Brothers and the 10 Tales of Roana, which was released in January 2024, and later published the second installment, The Rodney Brothers and the Four Fateful Names. The idea for this series began years before the books were written, but his ever-growing passion for storytelling brought the series to life, proving that with determination, anything is possible. With unorthodox beginnings, his journey shows that writers come from all paths.

1. What inspired you to write this book?

I wrote this book because I love stories, and I love getting lost in a world of fantasy. Harry
Potter is a favorite story of mine, and its combination of creativity, magic, and suspense was
inspiring to me. I find being immersed in a story and invested in what’s to come very
exciting, so I wanted to create something that would allow readers to do just that.

2. What will your readers gain from your book?

In addition to being entertained, I hope my readers will see characters in difficult
circumstances and feel as though they’re not alone in their own real-life struggles. I hope that
my characters’ ability to find a way forward will inspire readers to look for silver linings and
that their successes as a team and struggles when divided show readers the importance of
togetherness.

3. What was your unique quotient for this project?

One thing that makes my story unique is the shift in perspective. Readers get to see the events
of the book unfold through the eyes of a variety of characters. This not only provides readers
with additional information, but it also adds layers to the story. Readers get to know each
character a little more, while developing a more complete picture of what’s happening in the
book.

4. How did becoming an author help in your brand/business?

Becoming an author has opened the door for new opportunities. It allowed me to express my
creativity in a way that helped me connect with different people and be a part of a new
community. Through social media, in-person events, and more, I’ve had the chance to meet
new people, share new experiences, and even support other authors in their journeys to
become published.

5. What are your future plans as an author?

Moving forward, I will continue writing The Rodney Brothers series. I’ve had so much fun
writing the first three installments of this series, and I am beyond excited for what is still
to come.

6. What will you learn from this book?

Readers will learn a few things from The Rodney Brothers and the Fragments of Fire.

1. The importance of togetherness – As the world falls apart around the Rodney
brothers, they find that the only way to successfully move forward is to work together.
Trust and teamwork are critical, and the brothers put that on display.
2. The complexity of good vs evil – To judge someone harshly and view good and
evil as completely black and white is to ignore the gray area in which so many
behaviors can fall. Everyone has flaws, but it’s not as simple as categorizing someone
as entirely good or entirely bad. Mrs. Rodney becomes one of the best examples of that.
3. The value of family – The Rodney family is bonded by more than the dire
circumstances it finds itself in. Accordingly, the brothers lean on one another,
learn from one another, and find success and failure together. Holding those close
relationships in high regard can have tremendous benefits.
